After a series of social media posts hinting at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. It's called Space Key and developed in collaboration with an unidentified artist, it is made up of an advanced carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material which Lamborghini, in the course of a research project in the year 2019, sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was then created into a distinctive artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical component is engraved with an NFT serial number, which is tied to the corresponding digital artwork using an QR code on the back.
For those who do not know, NFTs are distinct identifiers recorded on a distributed blockchain ledger. They are linked to a digital asset, such as a picture, video or any other recording. This allows owners to ensure the authenticity, scarcity and trackability of their tokens over the internet.

The project is dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock a unique digital artwork created by the unidentified artist. The project was developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the "collector's work" is limited to just five units and will be auctioned off shortly.
At the center of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved with QR codes that connect to the digital component in the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that happens seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Over 600 million pixels up each of the five images, which were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.
Oefner employed an inflatable camera fitted with a lens to capture the individual images, which were then added to the final picture. The result is a truly out of this world photo that captures the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car rising from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and time of the auction haven't yet been announced yet.

The auctions will be held between February 1 and February 4. The auctions will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes, which is the time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be bought by registering online. Each one will be auctioned separately and the winner will receive an artwork digitally made by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five different times the Space Key passed during its flight through space.
